German viola, 20th century, 4-string, acoustic. $2,500.
This viola is a bit of a mystery. The label tells us it was made in
Germany and is a copy of Francisco Morana.
The only difficulty there is that I cant find a record of
any luthier named Francisco Morana, so its likely the
name was just invented for marketing purposes (not the first
or last time that has been done!).
That being said, its a very well-crafted viola, with a warm honey finish on a spruce top and nicely flamed maple back and sides with ebony fittings and maple bridge. The tailpiece incorporates four fine tuners. Excellent condition, with only a few small marks from playing. Likely somewhere between 40 and 100 years old. Body length is 15-5/8 inches, big enough to deliver a nice warm viola tone with good projection while not so big that it becomes difficult to manage.
Fully acoustic (no pickup, although I can perhaps add a Fishman pickup for a small consideration). Bow and hardshell case included. See more photos, call 425/772-0231, or for more information. 48-hour approval period. $2,500 plus shipping.
