Reinhardt acoustic/electric mandola. $2,500.
I acquired this mandola as a kit from the builder, Mike Reinhardt,
right after he stopped building more than a decade ago.
I got some help from various other luthiers (Ron Smith, Jon Bentley, Gary
Wagner) in assembling it. I have to say it turned out well.
ES-335-style double cutaway archtop body. Spruce top with F-holes, honeyburst finish. Birdseye maple back, figured maple neck. Rosewood headplate, bridge, and fretboard with 16-inch scale. Gold hardware includes F-style tuners, strap button and an old Randy Wood tailpiece. There's an internal pickup with an endpin jack. Comes with a Ritter Super Pak gig bag.
The large body pushes a lot of air, giving this beast exceptional tone and projection. It really does sound fantastic, thanks to Mr. Bentley's carving work on the top and back plates. Give a listen to it unplugged and plugged.
I can confidently say there isn't another one quite like it anywhere. Add a strap, see
