Bacon & Day Silver Bell No. 1 plectrum banjo, 1926. $1,500.
Made in Groton, Connecticut, here’s a 1926 Bacon & Day Silver Bell
No. 1
plectrum banjo. Serial number 17697. Bacon & Day banjos are universally known
for their craftsmanship and exceptional build quality. The Silver Bells in particular
have exceptional volume and cutting power, with great tonal qualities. 5 piece birdseye
maple/ebony neck. Ivoroid-bound, 22-fret ebony fretboard with MOP position markers.
26" scale length. The finely shaped heel cap is made from ebony. "B&D / SILVER / BELL" and
fancy pearl leaf inlays on headstock overlay. Geared tuners with ivoroid buttons.
Figured maple resonator. Plating is in good shape, and the hardware is all there. Two of the resonator bolts are replacements. Clear 11-inch head, original Oettinger 4-finger tailpiece. Heavy-duty, non-original hardshell case with cloth cover. When I turn 100 years old, I hope I look as good as this banjo does.
