Kent
Kent 836 8-string electric. $700.
Made in Japan in the 1960s, the cutaway, semi-hollow "violin-style" Kent 836 is a rare and elusive classic. The 16-inch scale inspires some players to set them up as mandolas, although they can also be strung with ultralight mandolin strings. Nothing quite looks like the 836, and it is much more difficult to find than its cousin, the solidbody Kent 744.
This is a standard sunburst model. In most respects it's in very good condition, with some nitrocellulose lacquer crazing and just one noticeable ding on the back of the upper treble bout. However, it needs some work: it will require a new nut and refretting to make it playable. I've priced it accordingly. Semihollow body, original pickup, 3-piece neck, and all original hardware. Floating adjustable bridge. Outrageous 5-ply binding all the way around. No case or gig bag included. See more photos, call 425/772-0231, or for more information. $700.
