Weber
Weber Gallatin F-style, acoustic. $2,250.
The serial number of this Weber Gallatin F-style mandolin is 2115310, indicating that it was finished in October 2002, back in the Sound to Earth days in Belgrade, Montana. Bruce Weber's signature appears on the label.
Weber has always valued clean lines and understated appearance to accompany the terrific sound of its mandolins. This Gallatin is no exception. The spruce top and mahogany back feature a dark blond (nearly orange) stain under a matte finish. The headstock eatures the Weber logo and a Celtic knot design, with tasteful, diamond-shaped mother-of-pearl inlays in the ebony fretbaord. F holes, no body binding, jumbo frets, Brekke bridge, and standard nickel cast Weber tailpiece. It has an adjustable neck with a truss rod cover. Some player wear and a couple of small dings, but otherwise the mandolin is in terrific condition. Includes a deluxe hardshell Weber case that is a little beat up, but has done its duty to serve and protect.
Weber paused production during the COVID-19 pandemic, and reportedly resumed in 2022 under new ownership, but it has been a few years since I have seen a new Weber. They are somewhat scarcer than they used to be. This is a nice one at yesterday's price. Time to keep that New Year's resolution to buy a mandolin.
