Rono
Rono "Workingman's Special" by Ron Oates. $1,750.
Here's a Rono electric 5-string mandolin by Ron Oates of Boulder, Colorado. Solid alder body, maple neck, radiused rosewood fretboard with 14" scale. It has a pair of Bill Lawrence pickups—one single coil and one humbucker—controlled by a 3-way switch. Nut width is 1.3215". Nickel hardware includes Gotoh tuners, tone and volume controls, a pair of strap buttons, side jack and hardtail bridge with individually tunable saddles. Sunburst lacquer finish with a slightly reddish cast. The headstock is date-stamped 040511, but this instrument has had six months of playing time at most. It does have some scuffing/"buckle rash" on the back near the neck/body joint, but otherwise is in good condition.
The choice of String Cheese Incident's Michael Kang and other jam-band players, Rono mandolins are known for jazzy tone and easy playability. They're also notoriously hard to get, but here at least is an answer for one lucky mandolinist. Gig bag included.
