Ratliff DM
Ratliff DM prototype acoustic/electric mandolin, 2016. $1,250.
Tennessee luthier Audey Ratliff is well known for his traditional F-style and A-style acoustic bluegrass mandolins, as well as mandolas and mandocellos. Here is something a bit more experimental from Audey: the prototype for his short-lived "DM" model, a 2-horn design with an onboard pickup that looks like an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of Rigel and other similar mandolins. Features include nickel-silver hardware, standard scale length, a hand-engraved tailpiece, lacquer finish, and mother-of-pearl inlay. Figured maple back, sides, and neck; high-quality tuners; ebony fretboard and bridge.
It's used and has its share of light player wear. There are some finish chips around the neck pocket; the sides have a couple of small dings and some discoloration on the binding. The back has a few faint finish marks; the neck is smooth and straight. Some cracking in the fretboard binding. Frets show some light marks, but are in good playing condition. The headstock has a couple of small edge dings and a bit of wear from being in a guitar hanger, and one of the tuner buttons has been replaced. Electronics have been tested and are in working condition.
