Rono baritone
Sierra Hull
Rono 5-string semihollow "Deluxe" baritone by Ron Oates. $3,750.
Emando.com is one of the few places you can purchase a Rono semihollow electric 5-string baritone mandolin for GDAEB tuning by Ron Oates of Boulder, Colorado. This single-cutaway instrument has a 2-piece semihollow alder body and a mahogany neck with a 2-way truss rod. The fretboard, headplate and tailpiece appear to be cocobolo. Two humbucking pickups (most likely by Bill Lawrence), volume and tone controls, and a 3-way selector switch. Adjustable Tun-O-Matic bridge, strings through the body. American-made chrome metal controls and switch, Gotoh 16:1 tuners. Pearl dots on the fretboard and medium-size guitar frets. 18.5" scale length. Rono's recommended string gauges are .050/.038/.028/.018/.011. It was built in 2008 and played professionally, but has been extremely well kept. Custom hardshell case included.
Of late, three-time IBMA Mandolinist of the Year Sierra Hull has been playing her Rono baritone on the road and in the studio. It’s featured on the single "Escape" from her 2020 album 25 Trips (see below). This is your chance to be like Sierra. There aren't many choices out there for players wanting to jump on the baritone bandwagon, but here's a rare opportunity to own one from the pioneer who popularized the concept in our times.
