Ryder EM-44
Ryder EM-44, cherryburst, 4-string, humbuckers. $1,500.
Killer 4-string electric mandolin from Steve Ryder in Maine. Solid alder body with a beautifully quilted maple cap finished in cherryburst. Bolt-on maple neck and ebony fretboard with jumbo frets. Nut width is 1 1/4". Sealed Kluson tuners. The bridge has four individually adjustable saddles, enabling you to dial in the perfect intonation. Adjustable truss rod in neck.
Twin humbuckers are controlled by a 3-way switch, but there are two additional toggle controls for series/parallel switching on each pickup. Tone and volume controls also help you shape the sound. If you know Steve's work, you know that he wound these pickups by hand. They've got wonderful tone and produce no extraneous noise whatsoever.
This instrument was a custom order, with just about every conceivable bell and whistle offered by Steve at the time it was built. It's in great shape and comes with a hardshell case. Steve has retired from mandolin building, and there won't be any more EM-44s. But this one's here, waiting for you to grab it. It's a full-on professional-grade electric from one of the very best makers, it plays comfortably and easily, and it's just about all you could ask for in a 4-string electric.
