Here's an outstanding 5-string electric jazz mandolin from Steve Ryder in
Maine, inspired by the Gibson Super 400 guitar. Mahogany cutaway semi-hollow
body, red spruce top with 3-ply binding. Adjustable mahogany neck with ebony
headstock overlay; radiused ebony fretboard with jumbo frets and pearloid markers.
13.9" scale; nut width is a spacious 1 3/8". Ebony adjustable bridge and
bound pickguard. Sealed Gotoh tuners. Built in
Pickup is a 5-pole humbucker; tone and volume controls
help you shape the sound. Steve winds these pickups by hand, and they sound
delicious. Despite being 13 years old, it was
evidently played very little. However, it does have some lacquer checks. These cannot be seen
when looking at the instrument straight on, but do become evident if you hold it
at an angle. Also, the cover of the 2-piece tailpiece is missing.
It's a full-on professional-grade instrument from one of
the very best makers, it plays comfortably and easily, and it's just about
all you could ask for in a 5-string electric. Original hardshell case included.
