Rick lives in Dundee, Oregon, where he operates RL Customs, a full-time lutherie shop. He writes, “I do all sorts of electric guitars and electric mandolins, usually with some of the more exotic woods.”
     On the left, a cedar-topped Explorer-style 5-string with an EMG Select humbucker. The extra knob is for what Rick describes as “an EMG afterburner, which gives it a 20dB boost when you kick it in to active.” On the right, a 4-string with a bubinga top, headstock overlay, and fretboard, and African mahogany back and rear cavity cover. The neck is African mahogany with a bubinga center stripe. Fretboard radius is 16 inches; frets are medium jumbos. EMG Select stacked humbucker; Gotoh tuners with ebony knobs; buffalo horn nut.
